Kitchens have long been referred to as the gathering place of the home. Un-kitchens bring these gathering places to a new level. They lean in to more of a living room style.
Un-kitchens ususally have few, if any, upper cabinets over countertops and some might not have any built-in cabinets at all. Often, instead of cabinets, they'll have open shelves or use pieces of furniture for storage. In my un-kitchen I have an antique armoire that I use as a pantry. Artwork is often times used in the un-kitchen decor, and sometimes there's even some lounge seating. I have a small area to sit and enjoy looking up recipes in my cookbooks, as well as a nook with an antique table for mail, keys, etc.
The un-kitchen trend invites residents to explore their creativity and have fun designing the gathering place that reflects their personal style and be surrounded by the things they love most.
